The End Of Atari, The Beginning Of Atari

Get in touch on Twitter and say Hello!

At a digital agency there are some things in our industry, and within our company and team, that reach beyond borders and are shared and loved by all.

You might have a hard time finding any website developer, designer or otherwise who doesn’t know the brand ‘Atari’. In fact you would probably be graciously invited to sit through hours of nostalgia at their first-ever Pong tournament or to hear about how we used to connect devices using wires and watch TV’s that weren’t flat.

Atari, Commodore 64, Acorn; many of us grew up around these computers. These machines inspired a generation of people who wanted more, better, faster and smaller.

So with a heavy heart we must announce that Atari has filed for bankruptcy.

Atari brought some great games like:

Asteroids

Tempest 2000

Combat

Pitfall

Missile Command

Space Invaders

Pong

Breakout

If you were around when Atari was the biggest, best, baddest kid on the block be proud because you are part of the select few who can remember what it was like to use your imagination in 320×480.

However, this story ends with good news. This bankruptcy is intended to ‘sever ties with [Atari’s] troubled French parent company and secure independent funding to develop more games for digital and mobile platforms.’

So this means there may be life left in this iconic company and one day, not so far away, kids might talk about how Atari was invented in 2013.
