Summary Of comScore April 2013 Video Rankings And Other Statistics

Skylab is hiring!

Yesterday comScore released their latest online video rankings for the U.S.

Here's the short verison:

  • A total of 182 million unique video viewers watched video in April.
  • A total of 13 billion video ads were watched.
  • 84.7 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed online video.
  • The duration of the average online content video was 5.6 minutes, while the average online video ad was 0.4 minutes.
  • Video ads accounted for 25.5 percent of all videos viewed and 2.3 percent of all minutes spent viewing video online.
  • Facebook users viewed 740 million videos.

This shouldn't come as a surprise in the slightest. Video viewing is continuing to grow at a ridiculous rate and there's evidence of that far beyond the U.S..

For instance, online video consumption in India has doubled in the past two years to 3.7 billion videos per month. "As per the report, the total online video audience in India has grown 74 percent to 54 million viewers, with the average viewer watching 18 percent more videos and spending 28 percent more time..."

According to eConsultancy 30 million people in the UK watch videos each month and in February Brit's spent 203 million hours watching content on YouTube.

These statistics go on and on and everything points to one simple fact: video plays a critical role in business and marketing no matter what industry or sector you're in.
