Is the battle between online video viewing and television already over? Has TV lost out? Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt was recently quoted during a presentation saying, “That’s already happened.” We tend to agree. Frankly, Schmidt has the proof to back up his claim. Youtube is currently receiving over 1 billion unique visitors every month.
Online video will continue to push past television and there’s no reason for that to change. With access to streaming shows and movies from a vast number of sources there’s no reason for people to rely on television. Televisions no longer rely on cable and tv providers. As technology increases televisions become ‘Smart TVs’ and connect with your media server, internet and computers. Did TV ever really stand a chance?
Online video is the perfect environment in so many ways. There’s a vast number of viewers, it’s easy to find niche groups and create custom content that suits them and it’s easy to track metrics and statistics that provide invaluable insight into a dynamic video platform.
Trendy and astute marketing managers realise this opportunity. That’s why you see video content being generated by nearly every type of business on the planet.
The only question is which online video platform and what content will your business deliver?
