Integrating Web And Curated Content Into Your Blog

Skylab is hiring!

There are a range of different types of content that an individual or business can produce. Some of these are easily identifiable, such as news articles, photo galleries or videos. Other types of content are less obvious, such as curated content.

Content curation is the capturing, packaging and sharing of content previously published.

Some of the most engaging articles you will read are supported by curated content such as tweets, Facebook posts, pinned Pinterest images and embedded Youtube or MediaTank videos.

Going the extra mile to integrate curated content can take your news article from standard to engaging.

Whether you're trying to produce a piece of content this very moment or whether you're doing some research on an article you will need a place to capture, store and organise your findings. Fortunately, there is a very large range of content curation tools available for free, some of our favourites include Scoop It and Kippt.

Scoop It

Scoop.it · Scoopit allows you to share ideas that matter on beautiful topic pages. Their tools help you to cut through the noise on Social Media. Best of all, sign up is free. Open this article

Kippt

kippt.com · Kippt builds you an online library of amazing things. You can use Kippt to collect research, stories, inspiration and notes. Open this article

We've recently started experimenting with Kippt here at Skylab. Here's an introductory video:

A quick Twitter search demonstrates the range of content that can now be embedded into your articles:

Of course, there are a few specialist tools that are very good at grabbing content from your curation sources and then make it pretty easy to generate unique content integrated with curated content. Storify and Shareist are two examples.

Storify

Storify · Storify helps to make sense of what people post on social media. Our users curate the most important voices and turn them into stories. Open this article

Shareist

Shareist · Shareist provides one place for all your links, videos, notes, tweets, etc. Your inboxes capture anything in separate projects and the editorial calendar helps you to plan and keep an eye on progress. Open this article

How you go about integrating curated content into your content production workflow is entirely up to you. You can find content before writing or use content to inspire writing. Just remember that the more engaging you can make your content the more likely that a visitor will return for more.
