How The Internet Helps In-Store Traffic

With so many people shopping online now it’s easy to think that the internet might reduce in-store traffic, however, this is not necessarily the case. In fact, it’s easy to see how the internet can augment or enhance in-store shopping.

  • 96% of consumers will research an item online before buying it in-store
  • 41% of consumers will use a mobile device to find a stores nearest location
  • 80% of shoppers will reserve a product online for in-store pick up
  • 43% of shoppers compare prices on their mobile while shopping

Some of the most common retail website elements are the most critical in maintainingg and encouraging in-store shopping. Integrating tools like store finders, reserve and collect and mobile access helps shoppers to streamline their needs against your services and that encourages online and offline shopping.

We’re now starting to see the emergence of other digital tools to help foster and streamline in-store shopping. Barcode scanners come on all smartphones allowing users to get instant product information and comparisons. Smartphone or mobile payment systems are being tested by corporations like Google to make purchasing even easier.

There’s no doubt that in the future in-store shopping will still have a strong role to play in purchasing items. Brand names that deliver trust, reliability and flexibility while maintaining a seamless digital-to-instore transition will be the big winners.
